When hiring a web agency to create a web project, the client company needs to provide a list of items for the design company to use while designing the site. Below is a checklist with regards to what clients need to provide to their web agency prior to the initiation of a web project. A certain design company may include more items on the checklist, but these are the basics to get the web designers started:
1.) Who will be your contact person within the company for the project? How would you prefer to communicate with your web designer or company? Email, phone, phone conference?
2.) Who in the company has the Pantone numbers that define the company logo and colors?
3.) What is the expected timeline for the project?
4.) Who is your audience? Is the site a B2B site, or will the site accommodate users?
5.) Is the site going to be a brochure-type site, or will it develop into an ecommerce platform? What are your long-term goals for the site.
6.) Who are your competitors and what are the URLs to their websites?
7.) Do you already have the domain name? If so, who did you register the domain name with? A hosting company? A registrar? Is there currently a site up at the selected domain name?
8.) What are your five favorite websites? Why? Do you like the look and feel? Functionality? Content?

9.) Will you need Search Engine Optimization (SEO) services? How far do you want to go with SEO? Do you simply want to list your site with Google, and maybe Google Places, or do you want your entire site SEO-friendly with efforts to be expended to maximize page ranking in the major search engines.
10.) Do you own the images you wish to use on the site? Photos? Any other graphics?
11.) What do you most dislike about certain websites, and why?
12.) Have you selected a web hosting provider? Do you have a web server on-site or collocated? Will you need a web hosting company?
13.) What are the top five components, or features, that you absolutely want to include on your website?
14.) Will you need a blog? Who will post in the blog? (They will need to have contributor’s access.)
15.) Who will maintain and update the site? (They will need to have administrative access.)
